Historical Connotation

While Unkal Lake has emerged as a popular picnic spot for the people living in and around Hubli and Dharwad not many are aware that it also has a historical connotation attached to it. It is known to be the Karma Bhoomi of Shri Siddappajja. This saintly person was born in 1859 and gave up all the worldly desires in pursuit of peace at a tender age of 14. He stayed in the Unkal Mailarlingda Temple until his death on 31st January 1921.

The locals here organize an annual fair in the fond memory of Shri Siddappajja since then. Several people gather around and take part in different cultural activities held during this fair. A number of stalls serving various scrumptious food items are also set up here to add to the celebration.
