Two wild life sanctuaries and a beautiful bird sanctuary are located near the Hubli city in Karanataka. These include the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, the Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary and the Attiveri Bird Sanctuary.

A mere 2 hours drive from Hubli and you will reach this exotic wildlife sanctuary. This is the second largest sanctuary located in Karnataka and sees several tourists pouring in almost all round the year. A wide variety of animals, birds and reptiles including leopards, tigers, bears, black naped hare, black panthers, elephants, antelopes, Malabar giant squirrels, spotted deer, woodpeckers, Malabar trogon, chestnut headed bee-eaters, grey headed fish eagle, Rat snake, Rana temporalis, Flying Lizard and Skink may be spotted during the jungle safari here.

Apart from these you may even spot quite a few wild animals including Jackal, Wild Boar, Grey Mongoose, Jungle Cat and Indian Porcupine.

Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary

Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary came into being in 1994 especially to give a peaceful abode to the Indian Sloth Bear that are slowly getting diminished. The place is well maintained and includes a wide variety of fruits that are loved by these wild animals.
It encompasses a number of caves that serve as shelters for them. There is a watch tower installed on a hillock in the sanctuary where the tourists are supposed to sit to catch a glimpse of this wild animal. It is a visual delight to watch them indulge in various playful activities.
This variety of bear is also called Karadi and the natives here often call the place as Karadi Dhama. A number of other wild animals including Jackals, Leopards, Star Tortoise, Porcupine, Painted Spur Hen, Monitor Lizard, Wild Boars and Partridges and various species of birds may also be seen here.
Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary may be visited between 6 am to 6 pm any day of the week. August to April is the best time to drop by at the place.
